NEWS CV MUSIC GAMES MUSIC XNA CONTACT ME

Since I began to play the piano at 6, i've been making music one way or another. I started dabbling in MIDI at 11, and by 12 I had a copy of Reality (damn fantastic softsampler / synth) to play with.

I'm currently working on a new track (finally!) which i'll upload here when it's finished.

I always loved the cartoon when I was a kid, and i've had the song stuck in my head ever since. I'd finished University and was looking for some more tracks to do, and thought it'd be fun to remix this.

Original song copyright Harry S. Miller. And here is a link to the cartoon itself.

This piece was originally written for my final year's coursework at University (which was an album and accompanying video DVD). I wanted to demonstrate as many different musical styles as possible. But one day, probably as a joke, it came up - "why don't we make a JPop track???".

"True Colours Of A Hero" isn't really JPop - all the lyrics, sung by my girlfriend, are in Cantonese, but I tried to base the stylistics and instrumentation off JPop tracks we borrowed from friends.

Whilst the track shares it's name with the Neverwinter Nights module I was working on, it was not meant to be used in it. The title "True Colours Of A Hero" is in fact the literal translation of the Chinese name of John Woo's classic, "A Better Tomorrow". As such, the lyrics of the track are all about the story of the film (though in places words had to be cut in order to fit - my bad, but no one has noticed (bar our Chinese friends!)).

This piece was written for my final coursework at University, and from the start i'd planned to make it a music video. In fact, most of my last year was spent planning this along with buying props, concepting and making sure everything would be exactly as I wanted it.
Unfortunately the video didn't turn out that way - there were just too pieces of work to finish in the end, and it didn't get the time it deserved.

The name was originally a joke about someone sneaking round our flat in Scarborough - "like a Northbay ninja" (Northbay being the area where we lived).

In addition to my parts on the track, my friend plays guitar, whilst the Pipa samples come from Liu Fang.

The vocal samples come from the City Of Glass track, 23 Reasons. I really liked the track, and thought it'd be cool to do a remix with some 303's and some grimey distorted synths in there too.

City of Glass can be found here.
